Diversity Champions

Many firms have, rightly, prioritized D&I this year, as events throughout the U.S. have drawn attention to inequities throughout society, as well as in the financial advice industry. The true leaders in this area, however, are those firms that have made a long-term commitment and put best practices and strategies in place.

Northern Trust Asset Management has done an exceptional job. The commitment starts in the executive suite, following the leadership of President Shundrawn Thomas, an InvestmentNews See It, Be It, Role Model winner this year. Northern Trust Asset Management’s 15-person leadership team includes nine women and/or ethnic minorities, including six women and three Blacks. “Building a culture of inclusion drives innovation and creates long-term opportunities that benefit our employees, our clients and our communities,” said Connie L. Lindsey, Northern Trust’s head of corporate social responsibility and global diversity, equity and inclusion.

NTAM extends its commitment to diversity both locally and globally. In its Chicago community, the firm is active via Chicago United, an organization that enables racially diverse executives to deliver their message to diversity practitioners. Globally, the firm engages in the CFA Diversity & Inclusion Experimental Partners Program.
